David Chapman is managing partner of the New York-based financial services technology practice at SunGard Consulting Services. Mr. Chapman has worked in and around Wall Street for 15 years and has an extensive background in the development of financial systems for capital markets. His domain knowledge is strongest in the areas of fixed income, derivatives, commodities, equities, electronic trading and credit and market risk. Prior to joining SunGard, Mr. Chapman spent 12 years as the CTO of a leading financial services IT consulting firm, which was acquired by SunGard in 2007.
Context
David Chapman is a recognized expert in using the agile software development approach for building custom front-office trading and risk management solutions for a variety of financial services customers ranging from hedge funds to global investment banks. His extensive technology background includes the architecture, design and implementation of complex, enterprise-wide systems. Mr. Chapman comes from a C++, .Net and Java programming background and has specialized in object technology for the past 20 years.
Commentary
Wall Street firms invest significant resources in IT development and implementation and require on-time and on-budget software delivery. The prevailing development methodology is one key obstacle to achieving rapid delivery because it leaves coding, integration and testing for last.
