Commentary
Many organizations are moving to virtualization technologies to generate IT cost savings by consolidating servers and storage. However, moving to these environments with untested plans to recover data could turn a problem into a company-wide disaster if an unplanned outage were to occur. Today’s business continuity requirements should be examined with an eye toward evaluating the impact of a transition to virtualized systems and how it may affect existing data and system availability requirements. These assessments can provide an objective evaluation for senior executives, describing how a firm’s information availability strategy compares to similar organizations – outlining strengths and weaknesses. They also contribute a valuable guide in determining where to spend money to address vulnerabilities.
